How Sharp Is Your Ax?

In 1972, Jim was working at the time at the Little Rock, Arkansas
Housing Authority earning about $525 a month.  Jim had a new wife,
a baby at home, no college degree, no success to speak of, and not
much hope for the foreseeable future.  Talk about your dead-end job!
Sitting in his office one morning and listening to the radio to a program
called “Our Changing World” by Earl Nightingale, Jim was almost shaken

out of his chair when he heard Nightingale say in his booming voice:
“If you will spend an extra hour each day of study in your chosen field,
you will be a national expert in that field in five years or less.”
Jim’s life was changed forever.
Even though Jim had never spoken in public before, it was his
burning desire and life long ambition to become a motivational
speaker.  Really?
Crazy don’t you think?  The nerve of this guy.
I mean, who did this guy think he was?  A nobody with a dead-end job
going nowhere fast and he wanted to be a professional speaker.
Where’s the evidence for that?
That IS what your friends and family say, laugh about and poke fun of, right?
Jim began a quest to put Nightingale’s theory to the test.
He began to read books and listen to audio programs relentlessly.
He did everything from beginning an exercise program to get in peak shape
to joining a self-improvement study group.  Although he constantly wanted to quit, he persisted by going the extra mile every single day and spending the
time and the effort in the study and execution of his new commitment.
Six months later Jim delivered his first speech.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Jim Cathcart now, or heard him speak.
He’s been delivering motivational speeches now for over 31 years
and has delivered more than 2,700 professional addresses all over
the world to some of the biggest companies in the world.
Jim Cathcart has been inducted into the Speakers Hall of Fame,
is the recipient of the Golden Gavel Award, and has authored
more than 14 books and recordings making him a multi-millionaire.
If you Google his name today, it will return over 117,000
sites and sources about all of his accomplishments.
So what’s your excuse?

List Of Excuses Not To Plug Into A System:
1.      No time
2.      No money
3.      Can’t get off work
4.      What if I can’t get a baby-sitter?
5.      I have to ________ that weekend
6.      Who will take care of my dogs/cat//goldfish?
7.      How will I get there?
8.      I might get abducted by aliens and they won’t let me come
9.      I went the last time –
10.    I already am committed to ______
It was Abraham Lincoln who said, “If I had eight hours to chop down a tree,
I’d spend six hours sharpening my ax.”
In other words, you’ve got to PREPARE YOURSELF by being a student of the
business.
If you want an extraordinary life, than you must make extraordinary
commitments and sacrifices.  I know that may not be what you want to
hear but it’s the truth.
The other part of the truth is that no matter how much I want it for you,
it’s YOU who must burn with desire to achieve your objective.
And if, and only if, it’s important enough for you and for your family,
than you WILL have to draw a line in the sand and say:
“It is for this moment that I have been waiting for all of my life.
I will prepare.  I will do what is necessary to win.  And while most of the
world sits in the stands, or watches on television and claps and screams
hollow sounds for someone else’s victory, I will do what it takes
